What Fetchly Is
Fetchly is a Chrome browser extension that helps you track news stories using AI. When you follow a story, Fetchly uses the Claude AI service by Anthropic to search the web for updates.
Information We Collect
- Account information: Your email address and a hashed password when you create an account. We never store your password in plain text.
- Usage data: We log credit usage (scan type and story title) to manage your credit balance and provide usage history.
- Page content: When you click Follow on a news article, the article title, source, URL, and text excerpt are sent to our server to create a tracking fingerprint. This content is processed by Claude AI and is not stored permanently on our servers.
- Payment information: Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details. Stripe may store a customer ID for managing subscriptions.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not track your browsing history or activity outside of articles you explicitly choose to follow.
- We do not collect data from pages you visit unless you click Follow.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels in the extension.
How We Use Your Data
- To provide the Fetchly service — tracking stories and finding updates via AI.
- To manage your account and credit balance.
- To process payments through Stripe.
- To send you notifications about story updates (within the browser extension only).
Third-Party Services
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Article content and search queries are sent to Anthropic's API to generate story fingerprints and find updates. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed by their service.
- Stripe: Payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment data.
Data Storage & Security
Your account data is stored on a secure server hosted by Railway. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption. Followed stories and updates are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
Data Retention
Account data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your local story data at any time from the extension settings. To request full account deletion, contact us at support@fetchly.cloud.
Your Rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing support@fetchly.cloud.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
